Just thinking…

I finally made some time to work on Amethystta and I’ll post some photos tonight (so don’t shoot me Sah! ). I was just thinking about the whole ‘dragon on amethysts’ thing and it gave me an idea! O_o I might just plan out a whole series of dragons and gems, like sapphire (my favourite!), ruby, emerald etc! I want to finish Amethystta in the next few days, so maybe after that I’ll sketch out some ideas.

Anyhoos, just wanted to share some thoughts.

Colours! ^^

Saw this in the local paper and thought it would be fun to post. I found the test really easy so I guess I’m a right brainer, although I can say the words just as easily as the colour… >_o

Escape – Sketch

My next graphite work, it’s been a while. Unicorns are always fun and he’s on a nice thick smooth paper at 11.5 x 16.5 inches. ^^

Sorry for the grainy picture but our scanner isn’t big enough for him and I didn’t feel like scanning in a couple of parts and then pasting him together in Photoshop, so grainy photo it is!

Amethystta – WiP

Thought I’d better post some progress shots. ^^ I’m still playing around with the background and I have a fairly good idea of what I’d like it to be…so Ima have to paint over it! >< Ah well, it’s all good.

Okay, I’ve played some more with the background and am much happier with where it’s going. I still have to refine the clouds some more, but I’m getting there.

Okies, clouds are pretty much done, I might still do some tweaking as I paint…but I’ll see.

22/2/08 – Finally up to the gemstones and they have (so far) been easier than I thought, but it takes a bit of playing around with the paint to make the right colours. I still have a fair amount of work to go but it’s all good. Oh also ignore the wings at this stage, I’ve just been playing with colours so far…they will look better soon…promise! ^^;

29/2/08 – Yay updates! Gems are almost finished and then it’s just the dragon to go! ^^ I’ve decided to make this the first of a series of paintings featuring dragons and gemstones so the title will be changed for the final version. I removed the gem behind the dragon just because it looked really out of place. Things are pretty mucky right now but I am so close to the nice detailing stuff! Can’t wait! ^^

Amethystta – Sketch

My next acrylic on canvas, also at 16×20 inches! ^^ The background will be all purples, burgundy and pinks. The crystals will be like amethysts in a light purple sort of colour…I’m not sure how I’ll go with the shines and reflections but hey, I’m gonna try. And Amethystta herself I’m not exactly sure of yet. I need some contrast between the background/crystals and her so I’m not sure whether to just go with yellows or a combination of yellows/pinks/purples. I’ll figure it out as I paint, it’s always easier to match and blend things once I can see the actual colours on the canvas.

PS – Please excuse the roughness, I sketch rough and make a mess as I plan my artworks. Always have and probably always will.
