The bushfires

I live in Victoria but thankfully no where near the areas affected by the devastating bushfires. As I write this 173 lives have been lost and it is believed that the death toll will rise above 200 as crews are able to search the ruins of desolate towns; towns that no longer exist. It is simply unbelievable to watch the destruction on the news and even though we are so far away form the flames, we can still smell smoke. In fact, it has been reported that smoke from these fires has been seen in the Southern island of New Zealand…across the Tasman Sea.

If you have no idea what I’m talking about just Google Victorian bushfires and you’ll soon understand.

The worst of it is that authorities believe some of the fires that have taken lives were deliberately lit. If they ever catch those responsible (and in time I’m certain they will), they should be charged with multiple counts of murder. Because they are murderers. I just hope for their sakes the police arrest them before relatives of those who died find them.

There has been so many people giving so much to people who have lost everything – everything. Not just cars and homes, but tragically family and friends. So many have literally been left with nothing but the shirt on their back. It brings tears to my eyes when I read some of the reports, but there is something each of us (in Australia at least) can do. Donate to the funds at your local banks, ring the donation hotline, donate blood if you are able, give clothes that you and your family no longer need but above all pray. Pray for the fires to end, the rain to come, strength for the firefighters, police and volunteers to do what must be done, and comfort for those who have lost so much.

If just ten people donated $30 that what make $300 dollars. Even $5 or $10 will make a difference – no donation is too small.
