Dragon Gems – Amethyst

Peek – WiP

I transferred the sketch to an 8×10 canvas and he looks so cute at this size! ^^ I didn’t bother sketching the leaves in as the background will be figured out as I go, but I will be doing the same leaves as in the sketch.

Amethystta – WiP – Update

Started another post because the other one was starting to look a bit crowded. You can finally see what I have planned colour-wise for the dragon and look! There’s even a pattern! :O And before anyone comments on the lack of scales – she doesn’t have any. She has more of a fur/hide thing going on, kind of like a horse; she will also have a mane.

EDIT – 13th March 2008: Below is the last WiP image for this artwork, I don’t have a huge amount to go but everything seems to be taking forever….. >_> Anyhoos that’s okay because I don’t want to rush this one.

Peek – Sketch

Along with a series of dragons and pretty gemstones, I intend to do a series of dragons with my favourite flowers and another series of dragons with my favourite trees. This is the first of the tree ones…der. They’re gonna be painted over a long time and I don’t have a finish date as such, I’ll just add to the paintings as I feel inspired.

Amethystta – WiP

Thought I’d better post some progress shots. ^^ I’m still playing around with the background and I have a fairly good idea of what I’d like it to be…so Ima have to paint over it! >< Ah well, it’s all good.

Okay, I’ve played some more with the background and am much happier with where it’s going. I still have to refine the clouds some more, but I’m getting there.

Okies, clouds are pretty much done, I might still do some tweaking as I paint…but I’ll see.

22/2/08 – Finally up to the gemstones and they have (so far) been easier than I thought, but it takes a bit of playing around with the paint to make the right colours. I still have a fair amount of work to go but it’s all good. Oh also ignore the wings at this stage, I’ve just been playing with colours so far…they will look better soon…promise! ^^;

29/2/08 – Yay updates! Gems are almost finished and then it’s just the dragon to go! ^^ I’ve decided to make this the first of a series of paintings featuring dragons and gemstones so the title will be changed for the final version. I removed the gem behind the dragon just because it looked really out of place. Things are pretty mucky right now but I am so close to the nice detailing stuff! Can’t wait! ^^

Amethystta – Sketch

My next acrylic on canvas, also at 16×20 inches! ^^ The background will be all purples, burgundy and pinks. The crystals will be like amethysts in a light purple sort of colour…I’m not sure how I’ll go with the shines and reflections but hey, I’m gonna try. And Amethystta herself I’m not exactly sure of yet. I need some contrast between the background/crystals and her so I’m not sure whether to just go with yellows or a combination of yellows/pinks/purples. I’ll figure it out as I paint, it’s always easier to match and blend things once I can see the actual colours on the canvas.

PS – Please excuse the roughness, I sketch rough and make a mess as I plan my artworks. Always have and probably always will.
